What should I do
while I wait?
Burst pipe or water leak?
If it’s safe to do so, turn off your water supply at the main shut-off valve near your water meter.
Keep clear of water near electrical appliances, power points or electrical equipment. If you cannot safely reach or close the valve, leave it and let us know.

Smell gas?
Don’t wait for a plumber before taking safety precautions:
- If safe to do so, turn off the gas supply at your meter or LPG cylinders.
- Do not smoke, use flames, operate appliances or turn electrical switches on or off.
- Move everyone away from the affected area. Only use your phone once you are safely away from the gas smell.
- From a safe location, call ATCO on 13 13 52 for a suspected natural gas leak, or your LPG supplier for bottled gas.
- For a major leak, fire or immediate danger, call 000.
Do not restore the gas supply or re-enter an unsafe area until advised it is safe.
